Server to cloud migration

This page contains information about migrating your Confluence instance to cloud. It is possible that some of the app’s functionality is lost after migration. Information about the differences of the features between server and cloud, and what gets migrated are mentioned on this page.

Numbered Headings works differently on Confluence server/data center and Confluence cloud because of the different integration points these platforms provide. This causes a difference in available functionality and what data is migrated when you move to cloud.

  • Pages that use macro numbering or page numbering are migrated without additional steps.

  • Spaces with space numbering are migrated to cloud without issues but they are no longer numbered.

  • Page includes in the macro are not supported on cloud. They work as usual after the migration but without numbered headings.

Differences between server and cloud versions

The table below shows a list of functionalities available when you use Numbered Headings in your cloud instance.

  • Page includes are not supported on cloud due to missing integration points for them.

  • Space numbering is currently not available. Please contact us if you are interested in this feature for cloud.

Page numbering

Page numbering is supported on cloud (launched in April 2021).

Migrated pages that have page numbering continue to work as expected with their headings.

Space numbering

⚠️

Space numbering is not yet supported on cloud.

Migrated pages that have space numbering enabled continue to work as expected. But their headings are no longer numbered.

Page includes

⚠️

Page include macros that are placed inside of the Numbered Headings macro are no longer numbered. The content of these included pages is shown within the macro on the page without being numbered.

You can find documentation for the cloud version here: Numbered Headings for Cloud.

How to migrate

You can use the Confluence Cloud Migration Assistant to migrate your content to cloud. There are no additional steps required to migrate Numbered Headings; all you need to do is install the app (read installation instructions) on the cloud instance.
